I just watched their latest song and I'm a little worried.

I get that sm doesn't like to follow trends but... sometimes I wish they did. like superm is obviously a group that was made for the main intention of getting into the American market. in what way did 100 sound like a song that Americans, or frankly anyone would like.

I feel like sm just pulled out a song from 2013 that they were supposed to give to another group at the time because this song sounds like it was made in 2013. especially when they had swagger in the lyrics... it is 2020.

jopping while not amazing still had its charms. 100 in my opinion doesn't.

what's annoying is that superm have some pretty good bsides that would kill as title tracks, but for some reason, sm hates when their title tracks sound cohesive and up to date.

Tbh a bunch of people love 100, Jopping, Tiger Inside, and No Manners so I think they're doing just fine. I like No Manners more as a song than Jopping or 100 also but I still think both of them make better title tracks and concepts for the group. It's not just about the song, there's more to it.

SuperM clearly has enough fans that like the sound. Non-fans should stop trying to "be concerned" about a group and trying to get them change when they won't care about them afterwards.
Not a shade to you OP, but I feel like I have to call this behavior out.
People said the same about Kick It when it was 127's most successful comeback ever. The sound clearly worked.
Same goes for people trying to act that they will stan Suju when Sungmin joins again but will not care about them afterwards.

You strongly implied that gg's don't get away with releasing bad songs when you specified that bg's can get away with it.

I agree with you but I do kind of agree with OP in the sense that SuperM’s sound doesn’t really match their supposed goals. Their sound is very 2nd gen kpop (which I love!) but their supposed to be aimed at an American audience...

100 is literally the least kpop sounding song. the majority of the lyrics are in English and there's an obvious inspiration taken from early 2010s American pop music. nothing about superm screams traditional kpop. if singing cringy ass lyrics on an outdated instrumental is supposed to be 2nd gen then I apologize for the misunderstanding. this has nothing to do with sounding like kpop. superms whole image has nothing to do with the good of kpop and a lot to do with all the stereotypes that have plagued kpop since the beginning.

sm has struggled with actually knowing what's in for a while now. they're not the innovators that they were in the 2nd gen. if anything they're actual influence on the industry itself has been absent for a while. and they're the ones with the weird obsession over the American musical market, they're the ones sending out the message that they want their groups to be big in america. nct and superm are prime examples of that. so god forbid I say anything about how "hey sm maybe if you actually looked at the charts you would know that superm should be releasing this type of music if they wanna be big in America and not shit that was big in 2013"

If you're specifying that bgs will be popular with bad songs that definitely implies that it's something that is a bg thing rather than ggs also. And it's not true at all that boy groups are always popular in the US, I don't think you realize how many boy groups struggle to gain recognition in the US or in Korea.

Well, 100 isn't exactly a song to get excited about. It's boring and plain to me. Jopping was a lot better, but I'm saying that even though 100 is a terrible song, SuperM will still win everything with it.

Win what? They aren't promoting it on music shows. Theres nothing to win. Besides, I love the song as do many SuperM fans so just because you like it doesn't mean anything because others disagree with you. And as we pointed out, many ggs are in the position where they can release terrible songs and win everything with it.
