The FNC Entertainment band claims the attention they finally deserve with their new single, composed by leader & oldest member Lee Seung Hyub.

N.Flying made headlines for all the wrong reasons last month, but things are starting to look up for the four-member band thanks to growing interest in their stunning new single "Rooftop."

The group saw public backlash and intense scrutiny when N.Flying's former bassist Kwon Kwon Jin became the center of controversy after multiple accusations, including sexual harassment, bad-mouthing his bandmates and dating one of his fans -- the latter of which is highly frowned upon in the K-pop industry. While Kwon and his lawyer deny most of the allegations, deeming any sexual misconduct as "outlandish," Kwon admitted to dating a fan and chose to depart the group permanently.

N.Flying made its ambitious debut in 2015 as a new, fresh-faced band under FNC Entertainment (following in the footsteps of successful predecessor bands like FTISLAND and CNBLUE) and has been consistently releasing elegant rock songs but to very little public recognition.

However, amid controversy and losing one of its core members in the middle of rehearsals, the boys pushed on and released their newest album Fly High Project on Jan. 2 as part of their annual project series -- where members Lee Seung Hyub, Cha Hun, Kim Jae Hyun and Yoo Hwe Seung release new music along with a surprise street performance (also known as "busking") once every two months.

A month into its release, N.Flying seems to have finally hit gold with "Rooftop," an uplifting, bubblegum rock-pop track fueled by head-bopping grooves, pounding drums and soaring melodies. At press time, "Rooftop" has racked up several million views on YouTube and hit top spots on multiple domestic charts in Korea, including Melon and Bugs.

Written and composed by frontman Lee (J.Don), "Rooftop" is a remarkable display of the 23-year-old's genre-mashing brilliance. Regarding the unexpected but well-deserved popularity of the song, Lee says, “Being recognized for music is an honor and the biggest achievement a band can ever accomplish. I think we are extremely lucky and are grateful for it. We are going to continue to pursue our career as if we just started and hopefully release better music and perform live more!”

For the rest of 2019, the band plans to release more music and hopes to do more live shows both in and outside of Korea to pay back all the love they’ve received from their fans (N.Fia).

“With this great energy, we hope to expand and meet our fans that we weren’t able to, and continue to spend more time with our day-one fans, because at the end of the day, it’s our fans who’ve supported us since the beginning that we were even able to come this far," Lee says. "We really want to thank our fans from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for always believing in and waiting for us. We feel like we’ve shared so many emotions, and we cannot express how proud we are of our N.Fia for sticking and pulling it all through with us. Seeing our fans happy drives us harder! I'm new to the fandom. What happened with FNC and N.Flying? I always hear that they barely promoted the band. Apparently, they went on hiatus before and started being active after they added Hweseung to the group?

Yeah I hope they should have promoted more instead of going on tour immediately.



If I remember correctly, for their Fly High Project they're gonna release a digital single every 2 months? Maybe their next comeback is on March since Rooftop was released a month ago but damn that's a lot of competition.

Yeh it was sad on AKP. There was one more fan who would occasionally drop by but then she disappeared too so I was left alone.I ended up losing motivation to post in it and it just died after a while ☹

Honestly, FNC is just terrible at promoting almost all of their groups but their bands even worse than their idol groups. They only start caring about them a bit more after they hit big. So they just focus more on their idol groups and if their bands hit big then good, but if they don't then also good. They just don't seem to care what the public thinks of their bands and mostly just promotes them in Japan. With N.Flying, the only good thing about their promotions is that they promote for a long time on music shows and that's basically it. They barely go on shows and majority of the stuff they do is to keep their current fans happy not to make new fans. So they're basically just doing everything on their own. Luckily the members have social media and now Hun and Jaehyun have a Youtube channel so we get lots of updates from them otherwise it would be dead quiet right now and we wouldn't have anything until he next release.

As for the Fly High Project, I forgot and thought they would be releasing one every month since they released a J-song last month. Ok, ignore me lol. Clearly my brain isn't working well these day. So yeh, it's a release every two months and busking events + concerts every two months.
And honestly, even if they don't hit #1 next month, I hope they can at least do well. Hopefully they'll pick anoTher public friendly song because I really want them to succeed. But that said, I also think all of their songs until now have been pretty public friendly. I feel like if people actually got to know them from the start, all of their songs would have done pretty well.

Also what are they gonna do now? They lost a bassist. Are they gonna borrow or add another member?

FTISLAND's Jaejin has been filling in for Kwangjin for their Japanese tour. I'm not sure what they'll do after this but I don't think it would be good to add another member. Maybe Jaejin will continue filling in? I'm not sure. I'm actually really hoping they don't add in another member.

By the way, N.Flying debuted in Japan first before Korea right? How popular are they on Japan? Do they sell decently there at least? I saw them performing with FT Island.

Yep, they debuted in 2013 in Japan with a single album. They released another single album 2014 before they debuted in Korea in 2015.

They do alright sale wise. Both of their Japanese releases before their Korean debut hit #1 on charts and they have successful concert tours there. I'm not sure how their latest release did though. And they're also decently popular. Definitely more popular than they are in Korea which is probably what FNC was aiming for anyway. They have successful (decent sized) concerts/tours there so they're doing well.

Also you asked if they had a hiatus before Hweseung was added and I'm not sure if it was actually a hiatus or if they were promoting in Japan since I wasn't following them at the time but they didn't release anything from the time they released Lonely (2015) to when Hweseung was added (2017). But I quickly looked it up and apparently they weren't active during that time so I guess it was a hiatus. But I think they might have been having concerts in Japan during that time although I'm not 100% on that one.

But honestly, I actually can’t tell too much of a difference in the instrumental. The original is the one without bass though right? Since Kwangjin isn’t in it, I’d assume so. But this one actually doesn’t sound that much different to me.

Yep, it's got a bit of a heavier sound, the original is lighter sounding because theres no bass. Its not significantly different though.
