There are two types of seasons, meteorological seasons and astronomical seasons. Meteorological seasons are grouped into months, with December, January, and February being winter, March, April, May being spring, ect. Astronomical seasons are based on the equinoxes, with winter starting on December 21 this year (it can vary by a few days depending on the year).
