I saw this somewhere and I'm honestly really confused.

"NCT will replace members when they become old and put new members"

I don't get this... are they going to remove members out of the group completely and just add new members? that isn't what I was...thinking

I'm not even a new nctzen

I never thought they were gonna remove members out of the group..........thats not something I like

I'm stupid but someone please clarify

I understand the concept though....just didn't get the memo for that part

I don't think that's part of the concept? I could be wrong, but I seriously hope that SM doesn't do that. :/
that wasn't apart of the concept...you're right but if sm really does this

I'm sorry but I can't stan a group like this.. :pepecry1::pepesad: I really really hope they dont

I'm pretty sure that's just nct dream....
:hmm:
Your comment made me even more confused.

"instead they want a successful franchise, like AKB48, so they can replace members when they become old and put new members without lost the power of NCT brand"
I think the comment was referring to all of NCT....but they have NCT DREAM

While the old part might be exaggerating since SM still promote their old boy groups they have, the replacing members part is likely to be true.

Normally groups only have a set amount of members so you have to take advantage when one gets popular and have to try harder to keep some more than others.

NCT is different though since they basically can have as many members as SM wants to give them with new ones coming in from Dream and instead of how stanning a group normally works you're kinda stanning a brand instead of a group.

This will allow SM to keep NCT going as long as they want with no worrying about losing the brand and rebuilding like they currently have to and as an added effect to this they can also kick a member or not worry about them leaving because they brand won't be as badly effected as it would be in a normal group.

Ofc SM ain't gonna come out and say this as people aren't gonna get into a group where the members essentially don't matter since a big part of kpop is getting invested into members.

I have been following the boys since their pre-debut days and that's the first time I'm hearing of this. I'm pretty sure that only stands for NCT DREAM.

NCT's concept was basically infinite amount of members with infinite amounts of units. Members from different units could collaborate and make a new unit for themselves or they could form an entire new unit with completely new members. There's just no limit to anything. It was originally also meant to be that members could just leave any unit whenever they liked too but I doubt it's as easy as it sounds.
Right now, NCT U is the experimental (?) unit, or the unit where different members can get together and collaborate and whatever else. SM seems to have made that change which makes sense since it would probably be too messy to have a hundred different units when you can just have one dedicated to collabs between members from different units.
NCT 127 was originally supposed to be the fixed Korean unit but I have no idea what SM is planning to do with that since they keep adding (Johnny, Doyoung & Jungwoo) and removing (Win Win) members. There were rumours that the 127 boys would be the leaders of other units in the future (Yuta for J-unit, Win Win for C unit, Mark for Dream, Johnny for US unit etc.) but that doesn't look like it's happening. But I think the current 127 members will be the final line-up, with maybe Yuta being sent to the J-unit in the future. I don't think they'll add in anymore.
As for Dream, well that was the unit that was meant to be rotational since their concept is the fresh teenage boys concept. It would be weird to have adult boys with that concept. So the current members will graduate once they're older and debut in different units in the future and new younger members will replace them. I don't think the graduating boys will be 127 so either they'll release music under U or SM will go along with the original concept and debut more units. But that said, I think from now on SM might only debut the Korean trainees in DREAM first. The foreign ones will debut in different countries. I don't think there will be another new unit debuting anytime soon with new members. At most, we'll get one for the members that have graduated from DREAM.
WayV is basically the Chinese version of 127. I think if any members are removed, it would be TEN since SM said they wanted a SEA unit in the future and Renjun and Chenle might be added once they graduate from DREAM.

So DREAM aside, no other unit has that concept. But honestly, I don't think even SM knows what they're doing anymore. They changed the original plan so many times already and they'll only change it again later. They don't really seem to have a clear concept anymore so it seems they're just going with whatever works.

Actually, it just occurred to me that that actually makes sense. NCT is meant to be a forever brand and conitnue on until the end of time (well according to their concept). So even in future generations when all the current active units are disbanded, NCT will still be active. But it's also impossible to have old grandpas singing and dancing like they do right now so it only makes sense for the members to be replaced at one point to continue NCT 127 alive since 127 is the official Korean unit. I don't think that means we'll never see the members again though. They'll probably still release music under the NCT brand but they'll probably move on and either start doing other things (solos, acting, musicals etc.) or get settled down. So I don't think the current members will be replaced any time soon but I think the possibility is high.

Or maybe SM will just debut a new Korean unit in the future and the current members will continue in 127 until 127 disbands. I guess anything is possible really. Since they never actually said whether the units are meant to be forever or just the NCT brand.

Ok, that makes me feel better
NCT is meant to conitnue on and having the same members forever isn't possible...

Well, I mean I stil hope the units are meant to be forever because if it's just the brand they'll for sure lose fans and a lot of potential fans will get disinterested.
