I'm just curious what your guys' thoughts are on people who claim to be professionals
on platforms like youtube, twitter, etc.

I know there was a big thing with a person who was diagnosing people and talking in-depth about mental health
when he was not a professional but he portrayed himself as such. I can't remember the guy's name.

I also know one of those vocal trainers
has had accusations thrown at them calling them fake and not an actual vocal trainer.
That Tristan Paredes guy. I think I tried doing research into it once and only found one thing or video really saying he wasn't legit.

But I was wondering if you guys don't trust people who claim to be professionals.
If you think it depends fully on what they are claiming to be.

But it's a legit thing-right now I'm actually watching a guy who is a therapist and is reviewing reality tv.

They can be interesting but they're just for entertainment purposes for me since unless they prove their credentials you can't be sure if they are actually a professional or if they just know stuff from other peoples for example

That's basically my stance on it. I don't take most vocal trainers seriously, including Tristan Paredes. And right now the therapist I'm watching gives off therapist vibes but I don't necessarily know if he actually is a therapist. But his insight is interesting nonetheless.

On youtube, I have verified the credentials of just one, thus I give more credibility to him than others. As for the others, I may watch their content with a grain of salt.

But also a good point-it becomes more concerning when younger people particularly find these people and trust them at their word when they in fact know jackshit.

Yeah I was one of those young people at one point and didn't know what the heck I was doing

Luckily as I've gotten older I've learned how to spot the fakes and whatnot but I kinda wish I was more educated when I was younger because lemme tell you, going 8 years undiagnosed is probably not the best option

Well shit, I understand the frustration then-that's awful.
But I know even without these people it's hard for people to get diagnoses.

Yeah there was a variety of reasons I didn't get diagnosed. The main one being that my OCD is strictly mental so my parents didn't really know anything was going on they just thought I was weird lol.

Tbh I thought I was just really really weird because I had all of these strange things going on

I've never even heard of OCD being strictly mental-if you don't mind me asking what does that entail???

its commonly unheard of because it cant really be seen. for example my reflex is to pray 24/7 (literally) but now i do it subconsciously. that clearly isnt visible which is why a lot of people dont even know i have it.

it stills gets in the way though. when im in a conversation i often to stop in the middle of my sentence for like 30 seconds because the thing about compulsions is that you cant stop doing them so i have to pause, do the thing in my head (which will be a prayer or a saying or something) and do that. Often when I'm typing it will be easier to tell if my OCD is prominent bc it will take me 30 minutes to type a paragraph or I will leave out words from my sentence and make a lot of grammatical errors since I have to smuch going on in my head at once.

That sounds stressful-is it something you notice when you're doing it or as you're doing it even though you can't control it or?

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions by the way I just am super interested in this stuff.
