Kpop vs Jpop: cultural differences (1 Viewer)

Now, I´m uncultured, an open book, but I´m curious whether you that listen to both have noticed any huge differences? I mean,there obviously must be a lot of o them as the two countries are so different. But which are they?

I have noticed that especially with girl groups (as I haven´t listened to any Jpop / jindie boy groups), they both play the "girlie, cute, youthful" card but a little differently.
Jpop girl groups always seem to wear some kind of uniforms, more or less. (I used google for this)

skirts, dresses, cute, cute, cute, cute

To me the obsession with cuteness is even bigger than in Korea, but maybe it´s just my interpretation. Again, I´m a mere viewer. I haven´t got deeply into it.

though I kind of like these (a girl group named FAKY):

I wonder whether Jpop is more popular in Asia in general? I know they have fans everywhere, but honestly the kpop industry is just huge. Is Jpop more popular in Asia?

What are the differences that you, people who listen to both genres and know a ton about the two, noticed? Which one do you prefer? and why?

I don't listen idol jpop, but so I know just on surface level. I think kpop focuses on talent and train idols to be perfect in the craft. For japanese idols how well you sing and dance seem to be less important and it's more about appeal and energy u give off. Also jpop idols do sexy photoshoots more. And kpop feels more westernized. Jpop has weirder concepts when u get into niche groups, kpop groups tend to follow popular trends.

I used to listen to traditional japanese idol pop but that's almost not the case anymore

trueee, but still doesn´t mean they don´t exist. there is also SKA but most people don´t listen to that.

I agree that both courtries has good hip-hop and R&B scene though

jpop feels a lot more open at times when it comes to race
I also like their stage outfits better, it’s a hit or miss but I like the effort out into them
and I feel like the industry is more open? like it’s easier to see the darker side of it, heck it was an open secret that Johnny was a p*do even if the media was too scared to post about it when he was alive
