I think cancel culture is worldwide pandemic. But this is more of kpop issue for me. If he wasnt kpop idol it wouldnt became such issue. The standard which kpop idols are held for id insane.
i agree partly, the same happens to all "famous" people, unfortunately..
producer, idol, actor/actress, big YTuber, influencer, radio dj's... and so on.. as long as they're in the spotlight

one missunderstanding.. and you gone

Ngl when I saw the thread title I wasn't expecting you to be the OP lol.

I just saw this on Reddit, seems pretty wild. Apparently the Korean term and context makes it a lot more misogynistic but
a. Idk if that was the accurate translation
b. He wasn't using that word in that context- he was talking to American friends and used a term which is pretty harmless in that culture, so stretching it to make it mean like he was saying something else is just :wimwim:
I feel like this is unlike me but honestly weirdly i feel way more affected by this than Park Boms or Seungris scandals. Maybe cause Jae was so open and easy to reach? He talked with twitch chat almost everyday multiple hours so this feels like huge loss for me too i mean i had him on background on work everyday... And knowing his situation its all so unfair it makes me mad.

Yeah and he's also been open about his struggles with his mental health so stuff like this takes its toll. Tbh I never got into Day6 and just knew of Jae as the member who streams but he has a dedicated fanbase, it's surprising when your own fandom (the Korean one this time) turns on you for such a non issue.
For him, I think it's better he takes a break for the moment although it shouldn't have come to this.

I kinda dont want to spread it but i guess its already on articles and him quitting twitch will be too so this will do nth bad.

He was off stream playing with some friends and made joke about another male player being sugar daddy and made sexual gesture in game. Someone shared clip on twitch, korean fandom translated it and made it to be misogynist and brought up comfort women. Someone tried to explain them its not misogynist term in USA and common joke. Jae first explained it as cultural difference and even joked with friends how he cant say or do anything. But it just got more attention. I feel like JYP forced him to choose between day6 or streaming.. or didnt give him choice and shut it down.
if that's the case then ngl i feel bad for him having to give up the whole twitch thing over something which got out of context especially since there are idols who said/did things which are much worse yet never apologised and as a certified jyp ent. anti i sure will celebrate when he leaves that company. i don't see this as much of a "cancel culture" issue as career-wise he would probably be fine if not for jyp being the way they are but at this point i feel he should take a break for the sake of his own wellbeing.

Yea. Apparently the last straw was korean fan union (didnt know its a thing) sending letter to JYP. Honestly for me its rly difficult not to be mad at korean fans at least ones involved. Fans are the worst anties.

Tbh I feel really bad for him.
JYP doesn't even do the bare minimum for Day6 members and it's so annoying, I hope when their contract is over, they all get out.

Ah i forgot a while. That was definitely worst for me and even more seeing knetz mock him for it :( after everything there is still so little support for idols who struggle and so many pointy fingers

Ash and Corpse posted too, sad face and heart. Hjune, Ducky and Hutnik told that they spoke with him and will game him off-stream. I love how supportive everyone is. Twitch community is really best community, i thought with all the twitch drama it would be toxic but honestly it has gotten so wholesome. I was surprised when i started watching streamers- jae's chat was always nice ofc- but others were too. And it did feel like close knit family.

I want to share Lilypichus' art where she draw whole Twitch family together including Jae in grey hoodie

I'm pretty sure it was like 99% a mistranslation, whoever did translate it should've researched more instead of just assuming that Sugar Daddy has the same bad connotations everywhere.
I'm just sad cuz Jae obviously got a lot of fun through streaming etc. and now he has to stop it cuz he just couldn't have fun with friends.
I think part of this forced apology is because they have grown - fandom wise - quite a bit, with a lot of younger fans who yes ig could take a word like Sugar Daddy and what the context was in the wrong way. Still seems like such a stretch because you could simply explain that it actually doesn't really have bad relations in a different culture.
