Honestly, I'm worried.
Our Governor called in the National Guard, and cops from Ohio & Nebraska.
We're currently in the middle of 'Operation Safety Net' and this verdict determines what my state is going to look like in the days and weeks ahead.
I just hope that this is the start of a change in policing, especially racist policing and use of force.

I wouldn't read too much into the speed of the verdict. This is Minnesota, many deliberations are fast. Also fast generally means bad things for the defense, not the prosecution.

I want to believe Minnesota isn't going to fuck this one up. The news is talking about how people in the city have "go bags" ready in case shit goes sideways. I hate all of it.

Chauvin immediately had his bail revoked and he was taken to jail to await his sentencing in 8 weeks.
There is an air of relief in Minnesota today.
People are celebrating, but also cognizant that this is just the beginning and there's so much work left.
For now, however, we celebrate the fact that we held police accountable.​

Justice was served indeed. I hope this is the beginning of a real change on the US justice system, one that is truly blind and fair to all people not one-eyed. In my country we are also fighting police brutality, our Police is as corrupt and abusive as it can get, I have faith that our situation can change as well, with a new police reform.

My worry now though is if they will charge the other officers involved or they will get off. They may sacrifice Chauvin but there's not a guarantee that the others will be held accountable.

They have already been charged, the trial starts August 23rd. Three officers are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
