and why was it the Backstreet Boys? lol /j but let's discuss!

I think it was the Backstreet Boys. Sure, there were groups like New Edition and NKOTB, but the former was more R&B than BSB and the latter more grunge. The Backstreet Boys, in my opinion, have paved the way in their own special way, just like the two I just mentioned. and btw I'm not knocking BTS, but they paved the way more for K-pop groups.

I hope I'm making sense. I'm kinda high on sugar rn. lol

I think many have much more in common with N Sync than BSB.
HOT were contemporaries of both Debuting the same year as BSB.
So clearly the Earlier groups shaped the 96 groups and Nsync was a popier response to bsb, especilly since it was in house ie the same producer for the 2 usa groups
BSB comes from Boys to men and more old school motown very very few kpop boy groups have anywhere near the vocal chops.

i went to the net just to make sure i did not miss remember and these are the results

youthful dynamic fast dancers screams the majority of kpop bg.

DBSK(5), Super Junior, EXO are more in the BSB mold. OFC LSM played around and even more so with Shinee.

Depends on how far back you want to go, there's rock paintings dating as far back as 30.000 years that show people dancing. In my opinion the first person to dance truly paved the way for modern boy bands.
