YESS!!! I may or may not have literally screamed when I heard it....... multiple times........ for a few minutes....... my poor neighbours </3
Although for some reason Kangmin akgaes are trying to get him to debut in some fan-made offshoot group called f1are and are hating on VRVR to do it. And so Twitter is back to being a living hell, and I really need to stop going on there, especially since the Verrer Discord server I'm in is FINALLY active again.
WE LOVE THE VERRER FANDOM BEING ACTIVR AGAIN!
twitter has always been a hellhole lmao, fan-made groups are not gonna work lmao jellyfish has plans, im so excited
IKRRRR!!!! And the f1are thing seems to have died down, although I also stopped going on Twitter as much for my own sanity. I'm gonna stick to Discord again!
What do you think of TWS's comeback and pre-release?
Pre release was ass, I'm happy with overdrive if they're gonna go in that direction BUT they have to get into it more. The song is obviously emulating early seventeen but if you're gonna do that you gotta have to have longer sections and more of a payoff (the boyz' recent VVV is a great example). I'm not as pessimistic as the guys commenting on thebiaslist but I do hope they build from the overdrive.
It's also one of those things where if this was 2018, 2015 or even 2020-2022 overdrive would've been lessed loved since there are better examples of funkpop in kpop but because 2025 has been a pretty, lets say different year in terms of what makes a song a POP song, it's rated really well. Like if this was 2020 I wouldn't have liked it as much as I do right now. Mini album's alright but I think Summerbeat has been hard to beat.
Would love to know your thoughts since you're a big horse christian boygroup fan lmao.
I agree! I liked Overdrive but HSKT was pretty disappointing. Overdrive just needs more oomph, I think. I love funk pop and pop rock, especially for them, but they already have Hey Hey to kind of base it off of, oomph-wise. That song has SO much energy and doesn't stop! I think this mini actually has their strongest b-sides so far, but you're right, on the whole Summer Beat is the best. I'd honestly like to see them lean a bit more into the pop-rock in the future, though. That's I think why Hot Blue Shoes is my favourite album, although I'm not 100% the biggest fan of the chorus. It's really could, but it could've been greater if it were melodic. I also really like Caffeine Rush! It reminds me of bossa nova music, which I really like.
Are any other new releases on your radar? DearAlice (SM's British boygroup that might not actually be under SM anymore) have been teasing a new song, but ever since earlier this year when a bunch of restructuring meant they've been distancing from SM, their music has been on a downhill slope. Their EP over the summer was all member solo/duo tracks, many of which (like Drums I HATE THAT SONG) had dubious quality, except for two barely-distinguishable remixes of their debut single "Ariana", which is the last release by them I actually liked. They had a promising ballad b-side on the EP, Save Us, but it's just too boring to leave any impact despite the fandom's praise.
I know it's old but I bought ILLIT's Bomb album recently when I saw it in a Target and I really like it! Especially Do The Dance and Jellyous! I think I'm liking ILLIT more as time goes on.
My favourite recent album was RE:WIND's debut mini RE:MINISCE! Their pre-debut RE:SET is on the album and it's probably still their best for me but it's a real all-in no-skip album! (Not even an "oh I'm okay with this being on" type of thing). They combine K-pop and Y2K American boybands like the Backstreet Boys soundwise, which as someone who was obsessed with the Backstreet Boys in middle school is something I totally love!!
Also, today VERIVERY ANNOUNCED THEIR COMEBACK DATE! It's going to be a single album on December 1!! They also performed an unreleased track, presumably from the new album, at their fanmeeting yesterday, and I thought it was really good! Not their best ever, but different and fun! And they admitted the lyrics mean nothing, LOLLL. I think it was written by one of the B2P contestants? Anyways, I'm waiting!! I think at this point, since it's been so long, it's less of a big hype and more of a "well, it's about freaking time!" relief, at least for now. (Or maybe my screaming hype (not kidding) when they announced it got my hype out and I have to build it back up.)
I was worried Jelpi were going to pull what MBK did with DIA back in the day and constantly say "guys, they're totally coming back!" and then never give them an actual CB. Although I suppose it did come from the members so it's more trustworthy! Hopefully this means they can keep releasing new music more steadily if they're more self-producing and whatever now. Anyways, I'm happily expectant!
