This year, Martha Wells, Matt Dinniman, and SA Chakraborty are the main guests. And Murderbot is my favorite media, period, and I just got super into Dungeon Crawler Carl this year! I liked Chakraborty's Amina al-Sirafi pirate series too, so solid lineup.

My youngest sister/husband and her kids are all into carl. I am kinda resisting after really not liking red rising. Hail mary is prob the only new to me author/book i have really enjoyed in the past few years.
if i went it would just to get my leather bounds signed. i used to go to all his signings pre covid, before he just went with nexus as a one time a year thing.
lol i am still waiting for my leather bound wheel of time ....

I am with you on Red Rising. I like a book that lingers, where you can think about it, and it holds up and you discover something new. And Red Rising was more like "wait, but that makes no sense, actually." Plus I hate "what if rape?" in books to raise the stakes.
I picked up the first DCC book from the library, because the fans are rabid at a level that told me it's either legit good (so they're very excited) or it's hot garbage (so they're very defensive). And I ended up driving to the book store to buy book 2, because I could not wait.
But it's fundamentally a death game (my favorite trope) and very rooted in video game culture, but I like video games, so that clicked for me. We read it recently for book club, and there was a pretty stark divide between "I don't understand why they're talking about her constitution" and "so I'm already on book 5...."
I liked Project Hail Mary! Funnily enough, I kind of think Weir sucks at writing human interaction, but I loved Rocky so much that I was like... if this man picks Earth over saving Rocky, I will never forgive him.
Have you been to Nexus before? I'm going alone this year, but last year, I went with a friend, and there's a giant convention game that forces a lot of interaction, and that was actually super fun! Plus a lot of the panels were really fun, like there was one where Christopher Paolini and Ryan Cahill debated the best dragons in fantasy, and Sanderson did a reading from The Fires of December and ranted about how much he hates AI. I'm making little crochet aviar to hand out, so that way, I won't retreat into "I'm just here... by myself..."

I wasn't expecting a white room or an alien contact book, so that surprised me. Agreed not only was the human interaction lacking , i think he knows it and pretty much avoided human to human that was more than surface level.
i have not been, november - march april was pretty much blacked out in my old job except for thanksgiving and a 1-2 days around Christmas. Shoot we worked new years and mlk for the last 10 years..
