4 = IV (I before the V because you subtract I from V which equals 4)
5 = V
6 = VI (the I is after the V so you ADD them)
7 = VII
8 = VIII
9 = IX (X means 10 so I minus X equals 9)
10 = X

One = I (goes up to three III)
Five = V (if there is a I before the V then you subtract which is why IV = 4)
Ten = X (same thing as before, if there is a number before it then you subtract it which is why 9 = IX)
