It's the united states protection of your medical rights, so like since you're over 18 only you are privy to your medical concerns (unless you allow others). I don't know if Canada has something similar but HIPAA essentially protects you from disclosure of your medical records to other parties.

What if you got someone on the phone or in a voice call and just had them listening/able to speak with you during it? That might help bring you some comfort (but obviously HIPAA, so maybe mute when speaking to the doc)
