A few things that’s happened with my chickens lately… (1 Viewer)

Just some random things that they’ve been doing and whatnot…

•For some reason Stitch (my calmer rooster) got very protective of a certain corner in their run. So much so that he was attempting to full on attack me rather than just charge, which is very out of character for him. I distracted him so I could see if he was protecting eggs or something but found nothing, he still gets very angry with me whenever I go over there. I have no idea what he’s trying to keep me from but he’s definitely made it a little difficult when I go in to refill their food lately.


•The flock has no place out in their run to perch and we really want to give them a space where they can get off the ground if they wish. We got one of those kid climbing domes for them to use. Have they used it? Nope I think it’s possibly because it’s slippery so when it warms up we’ll wrap some rope on it so they can grasp it a bit better.

•Millie, Cotton and Penny (hens) have all escaped at one point this past week (they dash out the door of the run). Honestly its terrifying when that happens, they just want to eat the grass in the yard but we have three dogs, two are fine with chickens but one will kill them in a heartbeat. Also they can fly over the fence to our neighbors yard and they have tons of dogs who will also kill them. So I just get very scared that something will happen to one of my babies.

•They killed a bird no idea which chicken did it exactly. Their feed attracts lots of birds in the area and sometimes the flock will get annoyed and chase the birds but I never thought they would catch one. They’ve killed mice in the past as well… Chickens will usually attack anything that’s smaller than them and unfortunately a few animals have paid for getting into their run.

•On a lighter note, they’re doing well through all this cold and freezing temperatures, no frostbite and they’ve been busy enjoying our chicken safe leftover’s from the holidays.

A serial bird killer on my hands…

I wish we lived in an area with nobody else around or just with some acreage so I could safely supervise them as they explored out of their run. It would be more beneficial for their health but it’s just too risky where I live.
