You should still take your shoes off.
This won't remove dirt from your tread.
What ever it whips your foot with will get dirty or run out when you need it the most.

I still don't understand how some people can be comfortable wearing sneakers, boots or shoes indoors after being outside for some time.

This is actually used in hospitals or private doctor offices. It became more used during the pandemic i guess, cause of obvious reasons but i do remember seeing this at the gyno and dentist appointments during pandemic. Not so much now.
