I guess how hurtful some things they say can be? My dad was recently defending a bill that Alabama was trying to pass. The intention of the bill was to eliminate the mention of anything LGBT in schools from K-12 grade. He kept saying things like “they shouldn’t be exposed to sex Ed until high school anyways” and “we need to counter LGBT propaganda because these days it’s worse to be “normal” than LGBT” and “these days heterophobia is the real issue, not homophobia”. I disagreed and pointed out some of the nonsense in what he said (so did my siblings) but I didn’t say anything about how hurtful I found it that he was so willing to side with those attitudes. He knows I’m a lesbian (I did tell him at least, idk if he remembers or know if he believes it though). I’m not expecting him to be extreme left because of it, but it just feels like he’s more willing to be partial to people who, quite frankly, probably think I’m a bad person for being lgbt (something I obviously can’t control), rather than looking at an actual example of an lgbt person (me) and actually look at my beliefs and such (I know I’m just one person, but surely he can at least start with that, rather than believe people who are raging about how the guys are trying to turn everyone else gay). Okay that went way longer than expected, it’s just something recent that I found discouraging
