I think that there should be a set age limit of when idols can debut/ even when they can start training.

I was born in 2006 and seeing idols being born 2007 and later juts doesn't sit right with me. I feel this way about all forms of media, considering the fact you can't start paying minors until they are of a certain age. When I see 13 year olds and 12 year olds debut it just seem explotative.

The same thing with the western market and any other entertainment medium that can lead to the creation of sexuallized content and means of explotation. It feels wrong debuting minors and then seeing the way that some companies/fans treat those minors. For example the Tzuyu elevator ad video was not something that should have ever even been thought of since she was a minor at the time.

I think the age limit to debut should be at least 18 maybe 17. I also think that idols should have an age limit for them to start training (around 15). Also if a trainee goes on a survival show they should be 16+.

Secondly bring back 21+ idols debuting because I want my Dr.Feel Goods and After School songs back.

Yeah you're right, it doesn't feel safe and healthy to have kids being exposed to all the pressure that the idol career gives
It's not an easy profession since being an idol isn't only about singing, kids and teenagers aren't prepared to handle it :sanapray:

I was looking at the discourse around younger idols (below 18 and esp 16) debuting and I saw a ton of people defending it on the grounds that "it's how the industry works" which made me pretty frustrated. Just because an industry runs a certain way, it doesn't suddenly make it non exploitative. In most countries you can't sign a contract till you're 18 years old, your parents have to do it for you, because you're not of an age to be able to take that much responsiblilty. I definitely think that debuting idols below 16 should be discouraged because the impact training and debuting that early can have on your mental health and development is huge. Ideally I'd like all idols to only debut at or after 18 but i think 16 is a good compromise.
