The US didn’t want their US Air Force members stationed in Berlin to get drunk in a bar and reveal military secrets, so they added a bunch of things to the Tempelhof airport (where the soldiers were stationed) to encourage them not to go out drinking. Some amenities included a basketball court, a sauna, a bar, a bowling alley, and so on. Pretty cushy for a military job.
