During WW1, rumors spread (and were potentially encouraged by the Allies) that Germany was using dead soldiers to extract materials from them for use in war. This was not happening, and after the end of the war it became very clear and led to distrust of the British government especially. However, this also meant that when people heard of the atrocities happening to people during the Holocaust, a lot of people assumed that that was rumors spread to encourage them to go to war with Germany again. With time, people learned the truth of what happened. But it took longer than it otherwise would have
