Any cat owners here? (2 Viewers)

So, my friend adopted a cat a few weeks ago and it's been rough since then. The cat seems to be really unhappy, is not eating properly and is often destroying the apartment.
My friend went to the vet a few days ago and the they said, that the cat suffers from 'single kitten syndrome' and needs another cat as a companion.

My friend is kinda scared that another cat could be too much work (and too expensive).
To the KPS users who owns more than one cat, is it really more difficultto raise two cats?

but anyway, it can be a challenge having two, but it's all about socialization and introducing the second cat the right way. and don't worry if they don't get along at first, that's natural because single cats are used to being, well... single. It just takes some time and patience. My bestie's female is slowly coming around to her male, the second cat, but at first, she was hissing at him like a venomous snake.

Yes I owned a 2 cats but they died and also one more but she died by killing of a male cat....

Does your friend interact with the cat much? Cats are usually known for being chill but some can be quite needy and it sounds like the one they have is and might not be getting the stimulation that it's used to having. There's ultimately variables to how it'll go between what type of cat your friends gets and how well they take to each other but my family had 2 cats and my cat mostly stuck with me and was chill even sleeping on my bed.

I haven’t raised two cats at once, but when we got our second cat (after the first had passed away a few years ago) our new cat had my dog as a new friend, though she’s not a cat. But as for the idea of us raising two much harder than one, it really depends tbh. In some ways it could be easier (if it gives the cats companionship they may not need as much attention all the time each, logistics stuff like food can be just as easy if they eat the same food, ect). But in other ways it would be more time and money, that’s a given (more vets visits, not necessarily at the same time as the other cat, if the cats don’t end up reacting well to each other it’s just as bad as now, if not worse). So you know what kind of a place they got the cat from and how much time she has to spend with the cat based on work schedule and those things?

yes, she is at home most of the time since she can work from home
the cat is definitely more needy and pretty much demands to receive attention and sleep in her bed, otherwise the cat is destroying her furnitures

Sounds like it's definitely using her for companionship then so depends on if she's alright committing to that for what could be a couple of years until it'll likely chill out or if she'd rather get another cat to give it that companionship which an older cat may work to give it that companionship while being more chill.

If she can keep the cat happy to where it stays eating while she can be with it at home and keep it in a pet cage or something when she's out to prevent it destroying furniture then she can try to weather the storm. If it won't eat though and she wants to keep the cat then I'd try getting a cat a few years old so it's past the kitten energy but young enough to where as long as they take to each other they can play together with some toys.
