anyone else kinda struggling with anxiety? (1 Viewer)

I moved out a few months ago so I could live in the city where I am currently studying but my parents keep expecting me to live the exciting student life where I end up partying all the time. The problem is that I am just an introverted person and I kind of avoid social situations and just rather spend time on my own... I ended up making up lies to tell my family so they wouldn't worry but it's making me really nervous and anxious lately...
Anyways, hoping that 2023 might end up being better.

I'm not... idk I'm not sure if I'd describe myself as anxious, but I do overthink things so that makes me hesitant to just do things sometimes, yk? It's not really a great habit...

Oh yeah, I totally get that one... Overthinking can stop us often from doing things which we maybe end up regretting later on... so its kind of a cycle that is hard to get out of :/

i think what you’re doing right now, is the same i’d do, because you don’t wanna want them worried for u. but, i think if you’re being honest to them and if you just open up once to them and be honest to them or anyone you really really care, about everything, you’d feel a little better, i think. cause i am an introvert too i hate being social, and i also have been dealing with anxiety and depression, so i really hope you get the courage to try out smth like this 🫶🏽

Thank you, it's nice knowing that someone somewhat understands what I am feeling... I feel like I've tried to tell them in the past when I was a teenager but it always felt like talking to a wall- But I really thank you for being such a sweetheart and I wish you nothing but the best! <3

Don’t feel pressured about socializing as an introvert. And honestly, I lied and told my parents too that I had a bunch of friends when I first graduated and moved to the city.

i think the previous generation never properly understood what being introverted and having social anxiety really means. And sometimes they just don’t take it seriously. Explaining this to immigrant parents was even tougher. X.X

Times are a little different and there’s a lot of information out there now you can bring to them if you decide to open up about it.

I have friends now but I still prefer being home alone with my pup.

It's a lot of pressure tbh, I just got out of a toxic relationship and my family constantly pressuring me to go out and date again isn't really helping either-

Not related but your psychology comment about your parents made me think of my cousins. Most of my cousins are in the medical field. We got 3 pharmacists and 1 studying to become an eye surgeon. None of their parents listen to their kids medical advice and choose to seek out a man named “baba ram dev” >.> and his brand for Ayurvedic meds for treatment. His blood sugar pills only increased blood sugar when my grandma took them. She was smart and realized his hoax. >.>

Yeah, I might try that... Just wish I didn't have to make up stuff so they won't lecture me about how I will end up alone or whatever... :/

Don’t ever feel like you need to push yourself to socialize or be around others just because those around you think you should. I used to do that to myself for so long because being “social” was what everyone else wanted from me. I would definitely try what Nina suggested about writing them something. I wish you the very best.
