I'm not familiar enough with Katseye to comment on them, but VCHA and XG are both no for me.

All of XG's members are Japanese, and all of their songs (that I've heard, can't say there isn't a B side somewhere I haven't) are in English. From what I've seen, they present themselves as an "international girl group" and that seems correct to me. All of their marketing, the concept, the songs they go for, are clearly aimed at an international audience, not that Korea isn't included in that, but they aren't targeting Korean specifically and treating international as incidental, the way most groups do.

VCHA was specifically created through an American reality show, with a concept of creating an American girl group using the kpop approach. So I view them as JYPE's collaborative approach with Republic to deliberately create a group that can (attempt to) break into the American music market, rather than their past approach of gambling on one of their existing kpop groups to try to do so (at the expense of their Korean popularity).

Vcha and Katseye were specifically made with HYBE and JYP under the kpop system so with that reason I count them as a global kpop group.

With XG it is still hard to say. They use kpop resources to promote but they are still a Japanese group

Why or why not?​

My opinion I think doesn't matter, its whether korean audience/fans consider "non-korean" idols as kpop.

If sakura, momo, sana n mina were an idol gg without ever being on Produce/SIXTEEN, but trained under the same agency-would anyone consider them kpop idols?(same for international idol ggs)

I think the companies r hoping for crossover success, ie Spice Girls/1direction level market success; but with members who aren't Little Mix, all saints/fifth harmony (trained/formed/found thru western survival shows or western trained). As vikki said [after I started writing this post] it's too complicated for me, so I return to my answer above, if others think it's kpop then so be it. If no one else calls it kpop, then tats the answer. I think in 10 yrs or more it might be much the same answer as wat is rock n roll? Different ppl hv different answers, depending on their perspective. For me if I don't stan them my opinion/thinking isn't relevant to whoever stans 'em/thinks they're (or not) kpop. Final answer.

Vcha and XG yes. After seeing Katseye I just didn't get the Kpop feel from them. They feel very westernized.

None of them sing in korean so to me they are not.
Since they sing fully in english i see them more as western groups (global groups like some pointed out)

But if i like any of their songs i usually would put them in my top kpop/jpop song of X year list bc i dont wanna create one about american/western when i dont have enough songs for the list bc i barely listen western music.
I do that with DPR IAN for kpop (bc he is korean and was a kpop idol before) and XG for jpop (bc they are all japanese and their label is also jp)

I don't know much about Katseye or VCHA, but XG is definitely not k-pop to me.
They're all japanese, under a japanese label and sing in english, and the whole "they promote in korea" thing seems unrelated to me. They don't really have anything to do with k-pop.

ooofff it really depends on how you view it.

If you were to say kpop = promoting in korea, I'd say XG is kpop since they promote in Korea.
You can see kpop as a certain style with substyles, aesthetic etc
You can also say that they need to be under a korean company and/or had to have the "kpop training"

it all really depend.
The term "kpop" as in music originating from South Korea has become too broad

they’re more international even though they’re all japanese and promoted like a kpop group

Honestly, it's really hard to call any of them kpop until they actually release a Korean track on an album. Seems like a minimum requirement.
