I have been thinking this a while. It just seems like lot of the big game franchises in Japan are riding with the power of title and characters. Like Pokemon, Sonic, Atelier etc.

Usually the graphics are rather simple they use lot of simple animation, repeated movements and when characters talk u often see just sprite not characters whose animation fit the speech.

And u rarely see fully voice acted games. Like i have been playing Pokemon Shield but im quite underwhelmed how there is no voice acting. I feel like huge game franchise like Pokemon would have funds to hire some voice actors to make the game more alive.

I feel like there is lot more ambition in west what comes to game making. Im generalizing ofc there is franchises and companies in west too that try to cash from bare mininum cough EA and Sims cough. In other hand western game franchises arent just appealing enough to sell the games without pushing graphics, gameplay story telling etc.

Still i kinda want to japanese game franchises to make more effort..

Have u noticed this too or disagree with it? :dubuthink:

I feel like pokemon games are well made tho repetitive which is only natural with their merchandise

i don't think it's cheaply made, it would just cost too much to do all that ( voice acting, unique animations instead of sprites etc.)
But u see western games do those all the time. They hire voice actors, make cinematic cuts cutscenes, as realistic as possible graphics. For me japanese games are fun but its often more because I like the franchise not cause game was made well
