Are there any words you misread multiple times and didn’t realize? (1 Viewer)

I thought etc was ect until I was in my 20s. Every time I read it I read it as ect. I also heard “ec cetera” instead of “et cetera” every time. I only found out I’ve been spelling and saying it wrong my whole life when I learned that spelled out it was actually et cetera, and then started to wonder why that would be shortened to ect. And then I took a closer look and realized that spell check hadn’t been flagging it for ages because it’s an acronym/shortened word, it was flagging it because I was just wrong. This was a recent thing too, like the last few years. I don’t know how I never noticed.

My second example isn’t nearly as bad, but I didn't recently buy some savoy cabbage for the first time. But I didn’t think it was savoy, my brain instead read it as “savory cabbage”. I was just like okay, fair enough, must be particularly savory or something. Nope. It’s not called savory cabbage at all. My brain just saw savoy multiple times and read it as savory every time.

I read edema as enema for a while... I really thought, "Wow, I can't believe people do enemas with how many die from them".

there's a town southeast of Greenville (South Carolina) call Mauldin, and for the longest time, I thought it said Maudlin. But the icing on the cake, I used it as a setting for an old fanfic from like 2012, so I kept writing "Maudlin" instead of Mauldin. I think Mauldin makes way more sense lol
