I just saw on Instagram a link to an article about somebody wanting to "cryogenically preserve" the body of her s**c*d*l son. I couldn't find the article bc they say link in bio, but the link just takes me to a collection of stories, not just the one in the post, but it was under People Mag's account. What are your thoughts on the idea of doing this?

idk I think it's kinda cringy, bc like how would you feel if you met somebody and they were like "I used to be dead"? that would just freak me out instead of piquing my interest.

btw this is meant as a civil discussion, not a heated debate.

I don’t think it’s a good idea as usually cryogenically preserving someone is usually done by thier own will, thier own choice, and it doesn’t seem like the parent is giving their son a choice in the matter. If anything it feels selfish.

nah, it's just a crazy expense to tack onto your loved ones and what happens if the company goes under? will the tech even measure up? how long will it take for the tech to develop? would staying in that state for so long have any averse effects? not to mention the logistics if it does work out like your income, health, etc it's so much uncertainty for what i frankly find to be an egositical delusion

cryonics in general is a waste of resources and nothing but a predatory scam that feeds on the raw grief and fear of death. that being said, if anyone is cryogenically preserved it should be by their own explicit will. otherwise, let the dead rest. i would never want it done to myself, even if there was a guarantee i would be revived in a 100 years. theres beauty in the ephemeral.

yeah, once they're gone, they're GONE! you can literally do nothing about deceased loved ones except miss them and grieve. Let sleeping dogs lie is what they say, and I think it totally applies here.

right??? what a waste of money, trying to revive what's already dead. I mean, I can see docs trying to revive people who are on the verge of death, but like I said to @Soogi , once they're gone, they're GONE!

100% against - not only is it pseudoscience, it's inhumane to profit off someone's grief and give them false hopes of bringing their loved ones back to life. if someone willingly chooses to freeze themselves for some reason then that's their choice i guess but doing that to another person who didn't consent is simply wrong. also assuming it worked - i'd be terrified to die and then wake up 100+ years later with the world as i knew it being long gone.
