I had 21 of those. Not that big though. My biggest was about 8 inches. I don't remember what they are called but they die very easily from falls because of their size. Who ever is raising that kid is awesome for giving her that experience.

Nothing. They would not have survived my move do I found them a new home. I cared more about keeping them alive than keeping them.

But why did they fall to death, it seems weird for nature to design an animal like that! You make them look very clumsy

Those particular Tarantula's are terrestrial Tarantula's. There are two kinds of tarantula's. Terrestrial and Arboreal. Terrestrial live in holes on the forest floor, under rocks and shrubs. Arboreal live in tree's and high places.
Those are called Bird Eaters. They can, but don't normally eat birds. It's actually very rare. Tarantulas don't catch prey in webs, they pounce so it would be very hard to catch a bird! Some dumb ass explorer saw 1 eating a bird a hundred years ago and assumed it's what they did. There are two varieties, Theraphosa blondi is the one everyone thinks of. The males can live up to 15 years and females 20+. I owned primarily Arboreal but I did have 2 or 3 Terrestrials.

If they live in trees, they have good chances to fall off though
