please elaborate how on earth

so basically that thing that covers the space where you put the batteries to the remote is broken in half thanks to my grandma and it's really sharp (i would take it off but the batteries would fall off) and normally nothing happens but a tv channel was playing a song i love and i tried to quickly turn up the volume and abruptly picked it up so now i have a cut on my thumb
