Don't get hyped by Christmas sales, Black Friday or such events. When you find something in summer while strolling through a mall that could be a nice Christmas gift for a friend or a relative, buy and store it. It's the same with Birthday gifts - don't stress yourself and start searching for a gift a few days before. You can also look for Christmas/Birthday presents while on vacation, but don't buy crappy souvenirs.
