ATTRAKT, the agency of girl group Fifty Fifty, has lost its appeal in the copyright lawsuit over the song "Cupid."

On the 5th, the 5-2 Civil Division (Panel B) of the Seoul Central District Court held a hearing to deliver the appellate ruling in the copyright confirmation lawsuit that ATTRAKT filed against The Givers.

The court dismissed the plaintiff's appeal, stating, "Under the copyright transfer agreement at issue, the contracting party is The Givers, and it is difficult to view the rights they acquired to each work under their service contracts as rights obtained on behalf of ATTRAKT."

ATTRAKT is reportedly considering filing a further appeal in connection with this decision.

Previously, in May last year, Civil Division 62 of the Seoul Central District Court ruled in the first-instance copyright confirmation lawsuit that ATTRAKT brought against The Givers that "the plaintiff's claims lack merit and are therefore all dismissed." In 2024, ATTRAKT had filed the suit asserting that the economic rights to "Cupid" held by The Givers actually belong to ATTRAKT and demanding their transfer.

"Cupid" is a song released in 2023 by Fifty Fifty. It drew global attention, including a placement on the Billboard chart.

I think it's pretty clear at this point that Attrakt dropped the ball on having clear documentation and relied on good business partnerships, and The Givers used that to their advantage.

Sucks, but I wouldn't mind them just going whatever and moving on. Girls are doing fine without the baggage.
