I honestly don't feel bad about being aro but sometimes feel like I'm lying to people that I form relationships with because I genuinely want to be with them and care for them but deep down I know I won't ever be able to love them in the way I know they wish I could. Being in middle school and picking the boy in my class that looked half decent acting like he was my "crush" because being a closeted queer and neurodivergent kid you can't afford to not fit in. I get told I'm not ace way more and people love to get particularly defensive over it which I find the weirdest. I had my ex partner tell me I wasn't really ace for reasons I won't mention because it's not really a conversation for the community in my opinion but also because in her words I was "still going through puberty and wouldn't have a fully developed understanding of what those things mean". I shouldn't let things like that bother me because I know who I am, right? but in reality I'm soft and I can't not let demeaning things like that not affect me mentally and make me question myself. Sometimes I wish I wasn't like this.

It means you feel little to no romantic feelings or attraction. I suggest you do your own research too if you really want to know

I’m asexual. It took me a long time to realize that it is okay. I would often think that I was broken or that there was something wrong with me. There wasn’t! Coming to terms with being asexual was both enlightening and freeing. I often felt like I had to “perform” for someone to love me. This is not true, nobody owes sex to anyone! But yeah, it took me a long time to learn, but so glad I did.

I know how you feel. you don't have to do anything you aren't comfortable with and anyone who truly loves you loves you for who you are and not for that
