On May 9th 1780, shortly after the American Revolution, a strange thing befell New England. Throughout New England, people experienced phenomena of a dark sky during midday, when it should have been light out. People had to light candles to continue their daily work. The sun, if visible, was red, as was the moon for many. The air smelled like soot, and the rain had odd films on it. A lot of people thought it was the day of judgement. It wasn’t. But who was to blame?

Now we can’t pin the blame on just one thing. But one of the major things thought to be the reason was Canada Specifically wildfires in Ontario. The soot and ash collected, and weather patterns brought the soot to the atmosphere of New England, causing the skies to darken and all that other stuff. So, when in doubt,
