Scend in that form didn’t really make it to old French, not without major sound and meaning changes (ex. Escalader meaning staircase). The last notable “scend” word was back in Latin, for the word scandere, which meant to climb. In Latin that was the un prefixed version of ascend and descend.

I am pretty sure staircase is escalier

the lift of a wave, or the upward movement of a pitching ship. It can also be used as a related verb regarding someone/something lurching forward from a swell or the movement of a ship. But it’s thought that scend actually comes from ascend as a back formation many centuries after ascend/descend were first used
