I was listening to a podcast where the host asked the guest why they look so fantastic, even with being over 50. And the guest said "great genetics, I've not had anything done." And then revealed that she's had Botox and fillers.

My reaction is... that's totally "having something done" and not just great genetics.

But it made me curious: would you consider fillers and Botox "not having anything done"? I guess the guest's thought was, she didn't have surgery, so it doesn't count.

Isn't there kind of an asterisk on the "not permanent" thing? Like you don't go back to looking the way you did before any fillers/Botox.

I might live in a weird area, though, because if someone told me their skincare routine was "great genetics" but it was actually Botox, that would be universally weird in my entire friend group.

I think if youd had botox/fillers you cant say you havent had anything done. Filler and botox shouldnt be normalized to that degree. With botox it literally affects the nerves and the muscle. Fillers literally is foreign substance inside you.

To me if its topic like skin care and some fancy skin care devices, you can say you havent had anything done. But things like strong acid treatmens and any type of injection treatments are also breaking the i havent had anything done.

Where I'm at, yes, because that truly is temporary; you're not injecting something into your face that later needs to be dissolved or corrected and maybe your face looks similar-ish to what it did pre-injection. Putting moisturizer on doesn't result in that "pulled too tightly" look and inability to emote properly that Botox can... This question kind of feels like the "gotcha" Adam Levine tried to do against Alicia Keys when she stopped wearing makeup and he caught her putting on sunscreen. Like, sure, both do things to your face, but they're not the same.

But maybe there are other places where, if you said your skincare was the result of "great genetics," everyone would understand that also meant you got Botox and fillers.

Nah if you got fillers/Botox you have gotten smth done
It's still facial correcting and you don't return back to your original face after that happens

Applying skin cream is not considered a medical procedure and does not require a medical professional to do it. Botox and fillers are medical procedures, and generally require medical professionals to do the procedure.

obviously some people mean not having something done = surgery and surgery only whilst others mean any type of procedure

Without putting too much thought into it I would say anything that's visibly altering your facial structure right now, temporary or permanent does not matter if it's adjusting what you look like as we speak. Say you removed a mole though I would not say that's "having had something done" because it's not adjusting your basic facial structure even though it could potentially greatly affect your aesthetics.

There is no 'just great genetics'. It's not possible to 'do nothing' and improve (or keep) the age of your cells. Cells can 'dim' genes, they can even turn them on or off like a light switch, depending on your lifestyle. You may have good genetic assets but they don't help if you drink too much alcohol, smoke like a chimney, eat fast food all day and have the physical activity level of a stone.

I'll have to disagree on that. If anti-aging cream and such aren't "havening something done", then Botox certainly isn't! I think she's more referring to surgery, bc Botox is just an injection - you don't have to be knocked out for it... at least afaik lol

I would have said just any surgeries but I forgot about these things so just anything that didn't come naturally and isn't 5 layers of make up

if you put anything inside your face that hasn't been there/ developed growing up or isn't related to some surgery you had to undergo like metal or something, then yes that's having smth done for sure. That's like me saying no I haven't had anything done but I got a tummy tuck
