This month I was able to read 5 books.
And in all honesty, it was a pretty solid reading month for me.
Most of the books ended up being high-rated for me.
Or if they weren't high-rated, they at least weren't horrible.
None of these books were re-reads.
I didn't DNF any of them.
And I'm excited to get into it!
April Reads:
Final Rating: 5 Stars
Summary: (This is a finale so I'll give the synopsis for the 1st one.) Voya is coming of age which means her calling ceremony is coming quickly.
See, Voya's family are witches. Each witch has a calling ceremony, where one of their chosen ancestors gives them a challenge.
Once they complete said challenge they will have their power revealed and their power strengthened.
But Voya's chosen ancestor is more cold and blunt than she was expecting and her challenge? To kill her first love.
One of the most challenging callings anyone in her family can recall. To top this off, Voya gets genetically matched with a young man who is a prodigy for a large genetics company. A company her family seems to loathe for no apparent reason. As time goes by Voya starts to realize just how horrid her calling challenge is, and also realizes how divided her witch community is. Along the way, she also learns more about her family's history and unlocks more than she ever thought possible.

Review: Honestly, I loved the first book in this series. So much so that I doubted the second & final book could compare. But boy was I wrong.
This book was amazing and a great finale. I loved Voya's character growth so much throughout this duology.
I loved the familial relationships that are usually missing from fantasy-based books or series. I adored the climax of this book and just the general plot.
I was worried about how it was going to progress but it was done beautifully and done so damn well.
I LOVE this duology.

Summary: (This is another 2nd in a series but I'll give the actual synopsis). Astrid Parker has been raised to be utterly perfect.
She's been raised to never fail, and she's spent her whole life doing everything in her power to please her mother. After the horrors that befell the Parker name in the last book.
Astrid is desperate to reestablish herself. The perfect opportunity comes along when she gets probably the biggest job she could imagine.
The chance to renovate a historical landmark in her community, the Everwood Inn, through the popular show Innside America.
But on the day that Astrid is meant to get her new life started she has a run-in with a charming young girl and coffee that completely ruins her lucky and favorite dress.
Jordan Everwood is also looking to remake herself by returning to her grandma's home, the Everwood Inn.
With her grandma's livelihood on the line-Jordan wants nothing more than to succeed and do a great job helping with the renovations of the inn she grew up in. But once she has a horrible run-in with Astrid Parker the day of their first shoot she realizes all of this is going to be harder than she first originally thought.
Not to mention she absolutely hates Astrid's designs for the inn. With both women having a rough introduction
and both of them constantly question the other's decisions-this golden opportunity becomes anything but.
But with tension growing, something else grows too.
Something a little softer and sweeter.

Review: Ok this is another one that stunned me. One of my best friend's TOLD ME that this was better than the first book and I REFUSED to believe her.
Because the first book blew my damn mind and I loved the characters so damn much, it was actually ridiculous. But hot damn was my friend correct.
I loved this book, somehow, more than Delilah Green. I am stunned by how wholesome and soft I was for these two women. There blossoming relationship was precious.
It honestly made me feel all the things and did so in the best ways possible.
I legitimately adore Astrid & Jordan so much and don't know if I could love a romance couple any more than I love them.
UGH! BEST ROMANCE BOOK EVER!
Final Rating: 3.5 Stars
Summary: Hannah has always been a little odd. She loves her job, hates vacations, and struggles to show love or affection.
When her boyfriend basically says that what they have isn't love and breaks it off with her. She finds it hard to work alongside him.
But they both are vying for the same opportunity at work and she won't let him stand in her way. But the opportunity for this new job comes with the condition
that she must prove herself. You know, I'm getting ahead of myself. Hannah is a bodyguard. And the job she gets to prove herself to her boss is an abnormal one, to say the least. She must protect the famous actor now turned recluse, Jack Stapleton. But there's one other condition.
She must pretend to be his girlfriend so that his own family does not suspect that he needs protecting. After all, he's there because his mother is very ill, and making her worry about bodyguards being present isn't the best thing for her health.
But Hannah hates this new job as it goes against everything she is used to in her job but slowly things get a little more intimate as she learns more about Jack and he learns more about her. But all of this goes against who Hannah is, or does it?

Review: I was personally really excited to read this but it sort of fell flat for me. I don't mind romance stories that have more than just the romance going on in them.
But this one seemed to easily brush over the actual development of relationships, including the main one we are supposed to be rooting for and I did not like that.
The author constantly brushed over development and summarized certain things off-page instead of letting the reader enjoy the development properly.
That in the end made this book ok for me. It was a cute concept and it wasn't horrible by any means but that one aspect made it less interesting to me.
Final Rating: 4 Stars
Summary: Tokyo is overrun by ghouls. Monsters that look human but are anything but human. In fact, they feast on human flesh.
Are stronger than any human, and honestly horrifying. Ken Kaneki used to be a normal college student but his life changes when he gets charged and attacked by a ghoul.
But things take a turn for the worst when he ends up in the hospital and the ghoul who attacked him ends up dead. The doctor that worked on Kaneki? Used the attacking ghoul's organs to save Kaneki's life and now Kaneki is no longer human. He's not even a ghoul. He's something other. Something powerful and strong.
Something that shouldn't exist. We follow as he learns more about ghoul's. Different wards. Different ghouls and learns more about himself along the way.

Review: This addition to the series was a godsend in all honesty. The last couple of installments were really lackluster but this one was a turning point.
This time around Kaneki is trying to learn more about the doctor who operated on him and uncovers more than he originally thought was going on.
The journey was interesting and fun. I loved it. Though some of the transitions were a little confusing the situation as a whole was entertaining and intense.
Final Rating: 3.5 Stars
Summary: (This is another series so again I will tell you about the first book).
In a world with 3 castes, Moon Caste (those fully demon touched who are almost fully animal), Steel Caste (those with some animalistic features), and paper caste (not demon-touched and wholly human). There is really only one honor for a Paper, to be one of the chosen Paper girls for the demon king. There usually are only 8 young women chosen for this "honor". But Lei is unlucky number 9 as she is chased down and captured by the king's men. Lei loathes everything the king stands for and everything the kingdom stands for as well and she wants nothing to do with the duty of being a Paper Girl. Especially since she's basically a glorified whore. But Lei also starts something a little more illegal when she falls for one of the other Paper Girl's. But things get more dicey when Lei becomes a part of a scheme with more complications and dangers than she ever thought imaginable. Not to mention this whole time Lei isn't even sure if she is fully human-her golden eyes often get her mistaken for a steel caste but nothing else alludes to this possibility.

Review: In this second installment I have the same issues I had with the first one. The writing and storytelling was great.
BUT the main issue is the characters and their development for me. Lei in particular is written as the very annoying stereotypical life-saving at all-costs
a protagonist who doesn't think clearly because she's too busy trying to save everyone and everything. Not to mention, her relationship is honestly still VERY stagnant and lacks luster. So many of the side characters also fall into obvious pre-made categories that make them seem like cardboard cut out's that don't stand on their own. Often times the off-time "humor" also takes you out of the story. With that being said-I am still wholly invested in the actual plotline. Which is the main thing driving my interest with this series. That and also the world being interesting as well. Though sometimes the dynamics of the characters are a bit confusing, especially the sizes of some of the Moon Caste characters in comparison to our antagonists.
