Because I will not be able to read as many books
as I did last year because of my busy schedule.
These reading wrap-ups will be
more in-depth than the ones I posted last year.
I managed to read 4 books this month.
Technically 3 since I DNF'd one. But I got through MOST of the book before DNFing.
1 book was also a re-read for me.
So I'm counting it!
Also-this month sucked for me reading-wise.
March Reads:
Final Rating: 1 star (DNF'd @ 77.5%)
Summary: This is the finale in a duology so I will be telling you the premise of the first book.
Ella, Rory, & Yuki are struggling with the attention they are now getting after their friend Ariane's supposed suicide. Where she drowned in Grimrose Academy's lake.
The three friends however find Ariane's death questionable and odd. The more they dig around the more things start to unfold. Like the fact that the school may be cursed and that Ariane is not the ONLY student to have died under mysterious circumstances over the past years.
When new girl Nani ends up moving in with the girls, they stumble upon more and Nani is inevitably dragged into this horrifying reality while she tries to find out what happened to her father. But as more girls start to turn up dead and at a quick and alarming rate-the girls need to hurry up their investigation before one of them is next.

Review: Honestly. I have the same complaints I had for the first book.
The characters are REALLY poorly written. When you are reading from the perspective of 4 characters you expect to sympathize with or root for at least ONE of them. I did not care for ANY of them. I was hoping with this second book I would be sucked more into their story but I found myself just getting frustrated with the lackluster writing that was filled with grammatical errors as well as non-sensical sentences and poorly created characters. The big reveal was going to happen but I found that I had stopped caring about how this story ended. It played it's hand too early and therefore I stopped caring about what happened in the last couple of pages and gave up.
I don't regret giving it up-I'm just mad it took me so long to say fuck it and put it down.
Final Rating: 4 Stars
Summary: Prince Damianos' world is turned upside down when his bastard brother decides to murder their father and tell the world that Damianos himself is dead.
While Akielos is in mourning of both their beloved prince and king, Damianos or Damen is being sold to his mortal enemy as a sex slave.
Prince Laurent is anything but kind, doting, or sweet. In fact, he is the complete opposite and he absolutely loathes Damen. Damen works to keep his identity a secret while facing a world that completely disturbs him as Laurent's people are comfortable with all sorts of messed-up practices.
But as time goes by Damen starts to see the trickiness of the politics within Vere, and does everything he can to survive the cruelty of Prince Laurent while keeping an eye out for any news of his homeland. But things get darker than expected as Prince Laurent's life is put on the line and Damen may be the only one who can do anything to help.

Review: This book covers some very disturbing subjects so I genuinely caution anyone from reading this series.
I however am a massive fan of the slow build of tension between Damen & Laurent and I live for the political intrigue as well. I remember I originally binge-read this series which is rare for me because I was so invested in this plot. But I will say the second time around it wasn't as captivating for me. I think I am mainly just anticipating the 2nd and 3rd books which really rocked my world when I read them. This is genuinely just an introduction to the practices of both Damen & Laurent's countries. It also gives you the ground work for Laurent & Damen's relationship. So this really just made me more excited for the 2nd book BUT it was still an interesting re-read for me.
It let me see again how messed up the start of this series is but I know it also gets a lot darker despite how messed up this book is as well.

Summary: Casey Fletcher is an exiled former actress. After the demise of her husband, she turned to alcohol to heal her broken heart. Now all the tabloids can do is talk about how her previously built-up infamy is falling apart because of her now wild escapades and drunkness. Her mother in the hopes of helping Casey get better sends her to the lakehouse where her former husband actually drowned. She may not have thought it fully through but she hopes that the fresh air, beautiful scenery, and more will help Casey return to how she was before. But things take a weird turn when Casey notices a floating body in the river.
Casey rushes out onto the lake to help. When she pulls the cold seemingly lifeless body into her boat she expects to be calling the police. But moments after pulling the gorgeous woman into her boat the lady coughs and seems to come back to life before Casey's eyes. The woman once fully awake introduces herself as former model Katherine Royce. Casey realizes that Katherine is her new neighbor across the lake, alongside her husband. Casey completely alone and still finding ways to get hammered finds herself overly interested in Katherine's life. She uses her binoculars to spy on Katherine and her husband. But things take a turn when she sees something she shouldn't have and then Katherine ends up missing. Casey does what she can to try and give justice to her new friend who she now fears may no longer be alive due to her suspicious husband.
But things are not what they seem.

Review: Riley Sager is so good at writing characters with backgrounds that intrigue you. He is so good at building up tension and nerves. But holy cow has he been dropping the ball for me lately with his plot twists? I almost burst out laughing upon the big reveal of this one. It honestly ruined it for me.
I was hoping for a more sensical reveal but it was far from that and I was just completely thrown by it. Not to mention there was a point while reading this where I kind of lost a bit of interest. I think this book had so much potential but it was wasted on the stupidity of the "plot twist".

Summary: This is the 8th book in a series. I'll give you the basic information then what this specific book was about. Alice in Wonderland wasn't fiction, it was reality.
And Wonderland isn't the only world that an unsuspecting kid can fall into, there are worlds where the dead live, where everything is made of candy, and more. Each child that has gone to one of these worlds eventually comes back. Readjusting to life in the basic and boring world is oftentimes challenging for these kids. They want nothing more than to return to the world they fell in love with but ultimately once you reach a certain age you can never return to that world. For those children who struggle to return to the real world, there is a school specifically for them to readjust to life. It's the school for Wayward Children.
In this installment, we follow Antsy as her life turns upside down at a very young age. Her father passes tragically and Antsy is struggling to cope. But things get worse when Antsy's mother remarries a man who Antsy cannot like-something about her new stepfather is off. But Antsy is the only one who seems to notice.
But when things get to be too much for Antsy she ends up running away, but she accidentally stumbles into a world where lost things go. She at first struggles adjusting but slowly starts to fall in love with her new life of traveling from marketplace to marketplace in different worlds. But things start to change and Antsy makes a horrifying discovery.

Review: Normally I struggle with these books, simply because they all are under 200 pages and oftentimes feel so quick and to the point.
That I normally find myself struggling to get sucked in by the story and characters. However, this one stunned me. The way Antsy's life falls apart was so upsetting and the narrator did a fantastic job of giving voice to a confused, scared young girl. It was honestly a masterpiece. The world she entered as well was one of the more interesting ones for me. Yes, I loved the candy world and the world of rules from previous books but this one felt the most fleshed out for me. It made sense in a way some of the others did not and I found it genuinely interesting. The way McGuire also gave darkness to both places in this story was great too. This one really broke my heart but was also just the most fleshed out for me and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.
