because it used to actually be made of lead, the metal (as that left a mark when rubbed against paper or wtv). when people realised lead is toxic, they switched it out to graphite (which is neither a metal nor toxic), but it's still called lead

yay!! i actually knew this because when i was younger, i used to chew on the ends of my pencils. to get me to stop, my teachers told me that lead was a toxic metal, and that was why pencil leads were so called. i was convinced i'd die by the end of 2nd grade until i found out they're actually made of graphite. so i kept chewing on the ends of my pencils for a very long time... i don't do that anymore though, and i wouldn't recommend doing it <3

When comparing Iceland to Greenland, label which of these two countries has the most northern point, most southern point, most eastern point, and most western point. Below is an example of how to write it out, it’s not necessarily the answer.

Iceland: most north, most south
Greenland: most east, most west

@alo this one was a difficult one Greenland is actually more north, south, east, and west than Iceland. For west it’s very close, Greenland is only a couple degrees further west than Iceland, but it is in fact more west

@Siriporn_Sukhon kind of close actually! It’s the archaic letter thorn (Þ). It makes the th sound. It fell out of favor because most printing presses were made in Germany and some other European countries, which lacked the letter Þ. English speakers got around it by either replacing Þ with Y (which is why ye old days and such were a thing then), or by using th, which is the modern day solution.
