@alo this one was a difficult one Greenland is actually more north, south, east, and west than Iceland. For west it’s very close, Greenland is only a couple degrees further west than Iceland, but it is in fact more west

@alo tbh I think that’s a very little known fact, I only knew about recently because someone who loves geography told me Especially because the west points are so close in longitude, people usually assume Iceland is at minimum more west, and usually south as well

@serenade nope! Italian is in the Romance family like Spanish and French, which is a subgroup of the Indo European family. The actual answer is Hungarian, which is a Uralic language. It’s a bit of an oddball, given that most European Uralic languages are closer to northeast Europe (Estonian, Finnish, and various languages in European Russia make up a lot, but not 100% of European Uralic languages).

@Selfmate you got it right but the reasoning wasn’t right Aleimani was one of the tribes from Germany. It’s why some languages, like Spanish, call Germany Aleiman and not something similar to Germany. They get that root from the German Aleimani tribe. Bavaria and Saxony were two of the regions other than Prussia that joined to make the German Empire in 1871. Bavaria has existed to some extent since the Middle Ages, but it didn’t exist in the more or less modern day form until the early 1800s. Saxony had a similar story, it was around for a long time, but was one of the bigger states to unify with Germany in 1871. And they both exist modern day also, not as countries but as German states. But both were much smaller/influential than Prussia at the time of unification, despite being some of the biggest ones excluding Prussia.

@Selfmate yeah I wanted to fact check the information about Bavaria and Saxony because I don’t have much in depth knowledge of most of the individual German states and I didn’t want to give wrong information I knew they were 2 of the states that joined Prussia at unification, but I didn’t know a ton past that. And then I got distracted reading more about them

@Siriporn_Sukhon kind of close actually! It’s the archaic letter thorn (Þ). It makes the th sound. It fell out of favor because most printing presses were made in Germany and some other European countries, which lacked the letter Þ. English speakers got around it by either replacing Þ with Y (which is why ye old days and such were a thing then), or by using th, which is the modern day solution.
