Benazir was a different case. There was tension but there were reasonable people who supported her. Rn, the country is divided into two major supporter groups. The pml(n) supporter group which usually consists of elders and the backward people. They can't let mariam win because she is a female and think she can't run the country.
The second group is the youngsters who support imran and consider themselves woke. They are the types to let a female win but mariam is from the opposing party. There was a short period of time when mariam took over and people were strictly against it.
