Henry the 8th is famous for starting the Anglican Church in England, when he split the English church from the church in Rome mostly because he wanted to be able to divorce his wife, and also be the one in power as far as religion goes. The Anglican Church is regarded as a branch of Protestantism, and the most common Protestant branch in England. However, Henry the 8th actually always considered himself a devout catholic, even after the split. He thought the papal authority was corrupt and not “true” Catholicism. Until his dying days, he was convinced that he was a good catholic, despite leaving behind a legacy that allowed Protestantism to flourish in England
