Rhode Island sent no representatives to the Constitutional Convention. They were the only state to not send any representatives. The reason was that they feared that a new constitution would give the central government too much power, and that they’d rather keep the Articles of Confederation. In the end, Rhode Island became the last of the original colonies to ratify the Constitution. A large reason for them ever ratifying the Constitution was because the other colonies threatened to treat Rhode Island as a foreign nation in terms of trade and tariffs, which would be a huge hit to their economy.
