yeah, it shocked me, too. lol it's really just grass on a trunk, my pastor says. Course, he can be a jokester, so idk how credible this is... Vikki, help??? @Ahsoka

It can be a bit of a grey area because tree isn’t a scientific classification. But there are certain features associated with trees that palm trees do lack, so some do consider palm trees more like a grass, like bamboo.
