If you’re @Nina you do because she told me, but for the rest of you A lot of people assume they’re a flower, but they’re actually shrubs/trees with red leaves. They do have flowers, but they’re small, yellow, and not usually noticed as flowers. The flowers are found in the middle of the bunches of red leaves.

but why is it most pictures of a poinsettia shows it in a small pot? is there a version that stays small or a way to keep it from taking over you're living room? or perhaps they get surprised when it breaks the pot and starts taking over

Those are common around Christmas. In a lot of those cases people are from areas where a full grown outer poinsettia wouldn’t grow though, since they need specific temperatures and sunlight to grow and develop red leaves. So even if the people who buy little ones wanted to grow a full tree, most wouldn’t be able to.

Up close they do have a bit more of a leaf look, but still flowery enough that people assume they are flowers

WOW THAT IS SO GORGEOUS!!!
Oh, yeah, I still thought I was seeing a flower even though I knew it wasn't, it's very mesmerizing!!! Such an interesting tree
