i just watched a video saying k-pop fans bulk buying their favs album to increase sales is bad for the environnement. though there is no denying that, did you know that digital streaming is actually much worse in terms of pollution? i had project in science this year where we had to choose a topic related to technology and say how do this technology pollute our planet. i chose digital streaming (with physical copies of cds to compare) since i use streaming platforms regularly. what was found by studies is that, while the amount of plastic to make records drastically decreased, digital streaming made greenhouse gas emissions rise greatly over the years and keeps on rising. it's because streaming takes up a lot of energy: downloading one gigabyte of data = light bulb shining for an hour (roughly).

hi jype interns let's be honest, they did not do this for actual pollution, but rather please fans and investors

I think even though bulk international shipping may burn a ton of rather dirty fuel, it ultimately allows better distribution in the long run from resales. (also bulk shipping is a lot less resource intensive than individual shipping)

tbh though chip manufacturers haven't been too keen on making efficient machines until recently. If there was an analogy, it'd be similar to car companies making bigger and badder engines with zero regard for the amount of fuel it burns. There was the productivity laptop market but nothing enterprise level that has had any major effects.
