Did you know that the famous painting Washington Crossing the Delaware had 2 presidents? (1 Viewer)

Here’s the painting, for those not familiar with it. It depicts the surprise attack the Colonial Army made in Trenton in 1776.

Obviously most people will recognize Washington. But what some people don’t know is that he isn’t the only future president depicted. Behind Washington and holding the flag is James Monroe, the 5th president of the US. Monroe did in fact participate in the attack and was one of the only Americans to get injured. There’s no reason to believe he was on the same boat, but this painting isn’t exactly focusing on historical accuracy
