I just learned thag the “st” in 1st, “nd” in 2nd, and the “rd” in 3rd is because those are the last two letters in each word it represents ​

I never thought much about it, but I guess I unconsciously knew considering that when trying to remember the letters for each number I sounded out the word and tacked on the last two letters.

yeah i knew it, but only after learning a bit of french, and noticing that it's different there, cause they tack on the last few letters of the french words for first, second, etc
