The English words black, blue, blond, and blank, as well as the French word blanc (and all related words meaning white in Romance languages) , are all believed to come from the same Proto Indo European root bhel-, thought to mean to shine, flash, and burn. This may sound counterintuitive that so many opposing colors come from one root, but it’s likely to be the case. There are also a lot of other words that may come from that root too, like blaze and flamingo
