Do idols “pre-smile” for performances? (1 Viewer)

Watch the very beginning of this Hanni facecam and you’ll see her switch from staring into space…. to brilliantly smiling. But she smiled beforehand to get into character? It makes me think of every other instance where I have seen this happen, which I always thought it was just like a cute little mistake happening where they start laughing at each other or whatever. But now I’m like, do idols do this on purpose?

lol right before the performance yes. If she’s greeting fans and not smiling I would be worried

Oh yeah for sure its even more obvious when they go from not smiling to smiling as oppose to some other stage faces. Its just the most obvious in this video that Ive seen.

I think smiling whilst performing is like part of their training and obligations

I remember twice while they were doing a idol room metal tray dance thingy the hosts constantly told them to smile more

I always find it hilarious when an idol is extremely serious as they get in position for a performance and then immediately smile from ear to ear when the music starts.

I think it's always planned like that.
Remember, they do rehearsals first before final filming and the groups know cameras will have close-up shots [ a.k.a. individual cams ].
Also, it won't be appealing to the viewing audiences at the shows and at home if they look grumpy like they do not want to be there.

Which I understand yes. I think my surprise came from how effortless Hanni did it and how genuine it looked.
