our prom this year for the guest forms, you have to say what school they come from and our school will look into their record and grades. this one girl keeps complaining Abt how her boyfriend got denied and they wouldn't tell her why.
she literally told us he's a dropout.

Ableist language perpetuates the inferiority of people with disabilities. At its core, it is oppressive, derogatory, and hurtful, no matter the intention behind its usage. I doubt that you meant any harm by it - it is a common expression and not many people take the time to question the origins. But, I digress.

it's allowed bc they don't want kids who are failing to feel like they can just get away with going and not worry Abt their studies.
plus, they've got to know what school he goes to and that he's not some random kid.

Using the word “blind” that way isn’t kind, because it makes it seem like people who can’t see well are also not smart or don’t care—and that’s not true at all. When we use words like that, even if we don’t mean to be mean, it can still hurt people who have disabilities. It makes them feel like they’re less important or not as good as others. That’s why it’s important to use kind and respectful words for everyone. Again, I doubt you meant any harm so I will suggest a few alternatives: “do people read instructions?” “No wonder he wasn’t allowed to come”, etc.

I get what you mean now. but it's kinda obvious as to why they're not allowed to come and they're "blind" to the words they're saying themselves :/
I don't have a strong opinion on these new rules bc I'm not allowed to go yet.

@TangledPuppy its okay, thank you for being so receptive and learning. Not everyone is this kind and willing to learn or make changes. I am not perfect either, sometimes I make slip ups, but it takes unlearning habits and questioning the origins of common phrases

From my understanding, they're comparing people who just don't see what's in front of them or don't hear themselves to yknow, literally not being able to see :/

Students fail or drop out of school for so many reasons. It's not always because they don't take their studies seriously. Some might really struggle, so why take away something that might bring them joy? And then people wonder why kids hate school

And i believe that looking at records is kinda fair bc if the student's been skipping or has be suspended/expelled, should they deserve to go? Or if they've been caught cheating which i have seen a TON of this year andni don't think that's fair myselfbc i do the work the best i can and they get 100s for cheating :/

I’ve never before heard of a prom where grades are a factor at all. It’s always just been that all juniors and/or seniors can go and that guests just need to register and stuff. It’s prom, not a competition for a grade based awards or anything.

yes I know, but they really want these kids to succeed and they want to give them something fun to do, but they want to make sure that they have good grades as well. a lot of kids just bypass w the bare minimum grade and go to prom and enjoy themselves while they're currently failing and have a chance to fix it.

I just see no correlation between kids failing and prom. Kids are failing all over the country, and always will due to the fact that there’ll always be a relative aspect to grades, but prom is a more universal experience that the majority of kids are allowed to experience. But I find it especially weird that visitors have to follow these rules too, to me that’s the part that really makes no sense. Behavioral records are still a bit weird for them to be given to a different school just for prom, but can make sense in case of troublemaking concerns. But why would their grades from a completely different school matter? It’s one thing to want to try to get your own students to improve grades, but kids from other schools? What? The only thing I could think of is maybe if you go to a private school, since they have weird rules, but if it’s a public school it surprised and confuses me a lot.
