I think that if you watch it you will realize there are happy endings with deep meaning. If you do end up watching it in the future, I'd love to hear your thoughts. It's my favorite movie of all time.

Oh I know that already. I didn’t mean that no happy movies with deep endings exist. I just don’t feel like the difference in percentage of happy media with deep endings and sad media with deep endings are very close, I feel like sad media is usually at minimum more impactful. For example the book version vs movie version of I Am Legend, that’s an example where the new happy ending is boring af and original more sad imo book ending is impactful.

That's fine, I'm also not anti happy endings. But for me even if I enjoy a "and they lived happily ever after" ending can be nice for typical consumption, but won't be something that I feel changes me, not the majority of the time at least, while sad makes more an impact often.
I was thinking read the book tbh Is the movie somehow better? Or will I get the same from reading the book?

I've never read the book but I can tell you I cry like a baby every time I watch the movie, so that's my vote for your first run-through

I don't like movies as much usually. You have to figure out whos who and for me that lasts for 5/6 of the movie So by the time I figure out who's who it's basically over.

Depends on the story. Happy endings are always welcomed, but a GOOD sad ending...It's beautiful.

I like none open ending and if that means someone gets killed, thats fine with me.
