I've never bought one, I usually borrow from the library.

Depends honestly.

I usually borrow Audiobooks from my library if I'm being honest and buy physical books for myself.

I pretty evenly read borrowed books vs. gifts or ones I bought.

I like to buy fiction since most of the books I want are not in the library, but ngl some books are quite pricey to read only once

eBooks, actually. lol I went to my local library once, and ONLY once, but the books were sorted by like fiction vs. nonfiction and then by author - that's it. I would've loved for them to have been sorted by genre so I could weed out everything but the mysteries and romances lol, but noooooooooope! (I know - card catalog... but still!)

So yeah, eBooks.

I'll usually borrow a book. If it's the first book of a series, always borrow. I only really buy books if the library doesn't currently have the specific book I'm looking for and I'm desperate.
